SIEUGreen aims to increase cooperation between the European Union and China through the enhancement of urban agriculture and resource-efficient, smart and resilient cities.

Supported by the EU Horizon 2020 program under the call H2020-SFS-2017-1, the total budget of the project is approximately €7 million. The project, which started in January 2018, is expected to last 48 months in total.

The project is based on a zero-waste and sustainable economy model and aims to demonstrate how technological and social innovations in urban agriculture can positively impact society and the economy. SIEUGreen is led by an international consortium of multi-disciplinary European and Chinese researchers, technology providers, SMEs, investors, local and regional authorities and civil society organizations. The members of this consortium are: Norges Miljo-Og Biovitenskaplige Universitet (Norway), Nibio - Norsk Institutt For Bio-onomy (Norway), The Institute Of Vegetables And Flowers Chinese Academy Of Agricultural Sciences (China), Crevis Sprl (Belgium), Nordregio (Sweden), Emetris Symvouloi Anaptyxis Organosis Kai Pliroforikis Ae (Greece), Arhus Kommune (Denmark), Vilabs (Cy) Ltd (South Cyprus), Okys Ltd (Bulgaria), Beijing Eco-Creative Agricultural Service Alliance (China), Beijing Green Valley Sprouts Co Ltd (China), A-Aqua As (Norway), Hatay Metropolitan Municipality (Turkey), Rural Development Institute Chinese Academy Of Social Sciences (China), Sampas Bilisim Ve Iletisim Sistemleri Sanayi Ve Ticaret A. S. (Turkey), Hunan Hengkai Environmental Protection Science & Technology Investment Co.Ltd (China), Seecon International Gmbh (Switzerland), Leibniz-Institut Fur Gemuse- Und Zierpflanzenbau Grossbeeren/Erfurt Ev (Germany), Beijing Photon Science & Technology Co., Ltd (China). Five different sites from Europe and China were considered for the project, namely: A former hospital site in Norway, a hobby garden in Denmark, formerly disused municipal areas with dense refugee populations in Hatay and large urban community farms in China.

The exchange of technology and experience between the EU and China during the project is vital for improving urban agriculture and resilience in Asia and Europe.
